Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh won its third straight game and remained perfect in non league action wit an 11-8 win over Columbia on Tuesday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The win raised Lehigh’s record to 7-2 on the season, while the Lions fell to 4-5.
The Mountain Hawks would take a 3-2 advantage into halftime behind a pair of scores by junior Ella Studdiford. Columbia tied the scored at 3-3 just :04 into the second with a goal from Molly Friedensohn. The Mountain Hawks would run off the next three goals in the game to take control of the contest. A pair of goals by sophomore Barrie Cominsky and one by junior Meredith Carso stretched the Lehigh lead to 6-3. The two teams then traded goals the rest of the way as Lehigh walked away with the 11-8 victory.
Cominsky had three goals in the contest, all of which came in the second half. The sophomore also picked up five ground balls and caused two turnovers. Matching her with three goals was classmate Kellan Van Hoesen. Juniors Emily and Ella Studdiford each chipped in with two goals apiece, with Emily adding four draw controls and Ella a pair of assists. Freshman Kyle Begina once again played the entire game in goal, making 11 saves. Carso scored the final Lehigh goal and also had two assists.
"This was a big win for Lehigh," head coach Judy Baxter said. "We played with a lot of poise and moved the ball very well. Columbia is a good team, but we got the edge early and kept the pressure on."
In the loss, Adie Moll scored three Columbia goals. Marcela Calidonio surrendered all 11 Mountain Hawk goals, making just six saves.
The Mountain Hawks will look to match their season opening four game win streak when they travel to Patriot League foe Holy Cross on Saturday for a 12:00 game.
