Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh (4-1, 0-1 Patriot League) looks to one-up 2002’s win total when Bucknell (1-4, 0-2 Patriot League) visits the Ulrich Sports Complex on Wednesday for a 4:00 Patriot League contest. The Mountain Hawks will be looking for their fifth win in six games, after winning only four games all of last season.
Lehigh has built its 4-1 record on a stout defense, which has earned a pair of Mountain Hawks’ league honors. Senior Rosie Sherry was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week last week and currently leads the circuit in turnovers caused per game with 3.00 and also ranks third in the league with 3.60 ground balls per contest. Ranking first in that category is teammate Barrie Cominsky. The sophomore is averaging 3.80 per game.
Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Begina is the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week and leads the league in most statistical categories. Her goals against average of 5.69 is over three goals per game better than the second place mark. Additionally, Begina’s league high save percentage of .637 is .090 higher than the next best goalie.
Lehigh has a pair of players among the league’s top ten scorers as well. Junior Emily Studdiford ranks fifth in the Patriot League with 2.80 points per game. Right on her heels is the team’s leading goal scorer, sophomore Kellan Van Hoesen with 11, who rates sixth in the league with 2.60 points per game.
Bucknell enters Wednesday’s game in the midst of a three game losing streak. Amy Hasler and Suzanne Raffaele have each scored eight goals to lead the Bison. The team’s leading scorer is Meredith Wright with 12 points and seven assists. Nicole Kallis has played every second in goal for Bucknell and has a 9.89 GAA and .561 save percentage.
