Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh will try to win its fourth straight game, when LaSalle comes to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Thursday. Lehigh currently stands at 3-0 after victories over Mount St. Mary’s, Manhattan, and Drexel.
Junior Emily Studdiford and sophomore Kellan Van Hoesen have sparked the Mountain Hawks’ offense thus far. Studdiford has scored seven goals and assisted on a team best five for a total of 12 points. Van Hoesen has scored a team-high nine goals, including the game-winners against both Manhattan and Drexel.
The Lehigh defense is led by senior Rosie Sherry and freshman Kyle Begina. Sherry, a defender, has created a team high 11 turnovers, and is tied for the team lead with eight ground balls. Begina has been outstanding in cage for the Mountain Hawks thus far in her career, allowing just 4.67 goals against and posting a .632 save percentage.
Through three games, Lehigh is outscoring its opponents 32-14, thanks in large part to a 70-38 advantage in shots on goal. The Mountain Hawks also have more than twice as many ground balls as the competition, holding a 59-27 edge in that department.
LaSalle enters the contest with an 0-1 record after losing to Colgate 7-5 last week. Leading the Explorers were Nicole Sunderland and Kim Emrich, who scored two goals apiece. Lianne Dictor made 11 saves in the loss. Emrich is the leading returning scorer from the 2002 squad that went 6-9.
Game time is set for 4:00.
