Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh kept its perfect start alive, moving to 3-0 after an 11-5 win over Drexel on Saturday. Junior Emily Studdiford scored six points from a pair of goals and four assists.
The Mountain Hawks wasted no time taking control of the game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead just over six minutes into the game, and built a 6-1 lead entering the half. Studdiford scored both her goals in the opening half.
In the second half, Lehigh kept building the lead, going up 10-1 after sophomore Kellan Van Hoesen’s third goal of the afternoon. Drexel attempted to mount a late comeback, scoring three goals over the course of a 1:12 span to cut the Mountain Hawk advantage to 10-4. Lehigh managed to regroup and the two teams would trade goals in the final minute for an 11-5 final score.
Van Hoesen’s three goals led the Mountain Hawks and gave the sophomore a team-best nine on the year. Adding two goals each for Lehigh were juniors Meredith Carso and Ella Studdiford.
Freshman goalie Kyle Begina had another strong game in net for Lehigh, making nine saves and allowing just five scores.
"This was a huge win for us," head coach Judy Baxter said. "We started strong and put the pressure on them. Kyle has stepped up and been great in goal."
Chrissy Sheehan scored two goals in the losing effort for Drexel. Also scoring for the Dragons were Katrina Rand, Jen Bonini, and Colleen Rocks.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Tuesday, when LaSalle visits the Ulrich Sports Complex for a 4:00 start.
