Lehigh in search of third straight win

Lehigh will look to extend its season opening win streak to three games, when the Mountain Hawks host Drexel on Saturday at 1:00. The Mountain Hawks are off to a 2-0 start for the second season in a row after defeating Mt. St. Mary’s and Manhattan earlier this week.
The Mountain Hawk offense has been led by a pair of juniors and a sophomore. Sophomore Kellan Van Hoesen leads Lehigh with six goals scored. Junior Emily Studdiford has scored five goals and added an assist to tie Van Hoesen for the team scoring lead. Junior Meredith Carso has scored four goals on the season, including the game winner against Mt. St. Mary’s.
Lehigh’s defense has been charged by the play of freshman goalkeeper Kyle Begina. Through two games, Begina is allowing just 4.50 GAA with a .625 save percentage.
Lehigh has outscored its opponents 21-9 through the season’s first two games, due in large part to a 67-38 advantage in shots. The Mountain Hawks also hold a 39-13 edge in ground balls on the season, including holding the Jaspers to only a single ground ball in their last game.
Saturday’s game will be the season opener for the Dragons. Last season, Drexel finished 5-11 overall and 0-8 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Dragons should be improved this season with the return of their top six scorers and starting goaltender. Senior Katrina Rand led Drexel with 30 goals and 39 points, followed by classmate Jamie Connahan with 19 goals, and a team-best 12 assists for 31 points. A third senior, Shirley Sarker, returns to net this season for the Dragons, after posting marks of 13.01 GAA and a .466 save percentage.
Action starts at the Ulrich Sports Complex at 1:00
