Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh (2-0, 0-0 Patriot) kept its record umblemished, drubbing Manhattan (0-1, 0-0 Metro Atlantic) 13-5 on Thursday at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Junior Emily Studdiford and sophomore Kellan Van Hoesen scored four goals apiece as the Mountain Hawks cruised to their second win of the year.
Lehigh fell behind in the first two minutes, but would take a commanding 7-3 lead into the break. The Mountain Hawks would hold the Jaspers in check as Van Hoesen came out firing, scoring the first three goals of the second half. Lehigh would continue to build its lead, going up 13-3 before surrendering a pair of scores with the outcome no longer in doubt.
Freshman Kyle Begina picked up her second win in goal, surrendering just five goals, while making four saves. A tough Lehigh defense allowed Manhattan just 15 shots.
"I thought we did a number of things very well," head coach Judy Baxter said. "We scored some goals and made some good connections in our transitions. We made some progress."
For the game, the Mountain Hawks came out on top in most statistical categories. Lehigh outshot the Jaspers 44-15, and took away an astounding 16-1 advantage in ground balls for the game.
Mary Dudek and Molly Pheterson each scored two goals for the Jaspers.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday when Drexel comes to the Ulrich Sports Complex for a 1:00 start.
