Miami too much for Lehigh

Coral Gables, FL – Lehigh fought hard, but in the end, the University of Miami proved to be too tough, as the Hurricanes (7-2, 1-0 Big East) dropped the Mountain Hawks (4-6, 0-0 Patriot League) by a 76-49 score on Thursday night at the Knight Sports Complex. The loss was Lehigh’s third straight. The Mountain Hawks ran with the Canes for the entire first half, and trailed by only four points (31-27) at halftime. Lehigh shot 48% (11-23) in the first stanza. In the second half, Miami forced many turnovers and held the Mountain Hawks to over 6:30 without a field goal at one point, as the Hurricanes pulled away. Overall, Lehigh shot 36%, and committed 25 turnovers. The Hurricanes were a blistering 53% from the field on the night, as they also blocked ten shots and came away with 12 steals. Three Miami players, Meghan Saake (17), Alicia Hartlaub (16), and Hutashi Wilson (15) scored in double figures on the night. The Mountain Hawks were led by Anne Tierney’s 16 points and 5 rebounds. Kelly Berk scored eight off the bench for Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks look to get back on the right track in the second round of the Gatorade Holiday Classic tomorrow night, when Lehigh battles Bowling Green State. Tip-off is set for 5:00 from south Florida.
