Coral Gables, FL – Lehigh had three players score in double figures, but it wasn’t enough as the Bowling Green State Falcons rallied to beat the Mountain Hawks (4-7) by a 63-55 score in the consolation game of the Gatorade Holiday Classic on Friday evening. The win improved BGSU’s record to 3-8, while the loss was the fourth straight setback for Lehigh. The Falcons jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead less than a minute into the contest, before Lehigh rallied to tie the contest at 12. Lehigh pulled away to a slim 35-30 lead at the half, led by Cat Nicholson’s 11 first half points, and nine more from Carli Toliver. Both Nicholson and Toliver sank three 3’s apiece in the first half, and Lehigh as a team was 6-12 from long distance in the first frame. However, Nicholson wouldn’t score in the second half, and Toliver, who was in foul trouble, added only one field goal in limited minutes. BGSU rallied in the second half to take the lead, and then hung on for the win. The Falcons were paced by 17 points from Kim Griech, 16 from Stefanie Wenzel, and 10 from senior Dana Western-Schuka. Lehigh shot a tough 22% from the field in the second half (31% for the game), and the Mountain Hawks were only 1-12 from long range in the second stanza. BGSU was 8-25 from beyond the arc (32%) on the evening. Lehigh was led offensively by Jana Ransom’s 12 points. The sophomore was an impressive 6-6 from the free throw line. Junior Anne Tierney pulled down 11 rebounds in the loss. The Mountain Hawks head back to Bethlehem to prepare for a non-league showdown with the Stony Brook Seawolves. That match-up will take place on January 2 at 7:00 in Lehigh’s Stabler Arena. The game will be broadcast on the Lehigh web site and locally on 91.3 FM, WLVR.
