A three-sport athlete, Robert "Bob" Many excelled at Lehigh in basketball, football and track.

He was Lehigh’s first basketball superstar and one of its all-time great players. As a sophomore and junior, he set two single-game records of 27 and 28 points, marks that held up for 11 seasons. Many also set school records for career points (632), which held up for 25 years, and for average points per game (15.0). The first Lehigh player to score 200 or more points in each of his three varsity seasons, Many is perhaps best known for shooting the first jump shot in collegiate basketball history.
Many also was known nationally for leading the country at the university level for three seasons in points scored per game. He was also first in the East among all colleges and universities in scoring for those same three seasons.

Many also played football during his final two seasons in which he was a mainstay of the team. In track, he was captain of the 1930 squad and set dual meet records in the quarter-mile, as well as a school record as lead-off man in the one-mile relay at the 1928 Penn Relays as a sophomore.

Raised in Bayonne, New Jersey, the late Many was father to four sons: Bob III ‘53, Francis, Peter and Seth.
