Allen T. Ware*
- Induction:
- 1995
- Class:
- 1932
Perhaps the greatest athlete to ever wear brown and white, Allen Ware was an inspiration to the entire Lehigh community.
Â
Versatility was his forte as he was captain and three-year starter in three sports. Ware was the quarterback, punter and fullback for the football team, center on the basketball team and the baseball team’s first baseman. Even with all that to keep him busy, he found time for a variety of extracurricular activities including Cyanide and Junior Class President. Ware was a member of the Sword and Crescent, Lehigh Union, and Omicron Delta Kappa and Delta Tau Delta fraternities.
Â
Ware graduated from Lehigh in 1932 with a degree in business administration. He returned for a year of postgraduate work where he obtained enough credits to teach and coach. After two years as head football coach at Wilmington High School in Delaware, Ware spent the next 40 years at P.S. DuPont High School, also in Wilmington. While at P.S. DuPont, he served as an accounting teacher and head coach of the basketball, football, track and cross-country teams. Ware retired in 1974.
Â
A native of Glassboro, New Jersey, the late Ware was married to Francis Arnold Ware. They had two children, Trudy Ware Kelly and A. Theodore Ware.
