Adam comes to Lehigh following brief coaching stints at Mount Vernon High School (Va.) and Dickinson College, where he worked with the throwing events.
In his first indoor season, Thielemann helped three athletes qualify for the ECAC/IC4A indoor championships with all three throwers scoring at the Patriot League Indoor Championships. Senior E’Lana Lemon, the most decorated field event athlete in Patriot League history, claimed her first Patriot League indoor weight throw championship with teammate Jimil Ataman finishing fourth. On the men’s side, senior Chris Buck threw a personal best and IC4A qualifier, finishing fourth in the Patriot League men’s shot put competition.
Earlier in the indoor season Thielemann’s athletes claimed both weight throw titles with four athletes setting personal bests during the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet.
Emerging with the spring weather, Lehigh’s throwers excelled outdoors under Thielemann. In a season where nine of his athletes accomplished personal bests in at least one event, Jimil Ataman and E’Lana Lemon topped 56 meters in the hammer throw en route to Patriot League gold and silver performances, likely earning invitations to compete at the NCAA First Round Championships.
Elsewhere in the throws, three women’s javelin throwers made the Patriot League final, scoring fifth and six. In the men’s discus, Ben Beauchamp added nearly seven feet to his previous personal best toss, throwing an IC4A mark at the Patriot League Championships.
Prior to the League Championships, 2013 season highlights include four IC4A and ECAC qualifiers and three finalists in the Penn Relays throwing events.
Prior to his arrival at Lehigh, Thielemann coached the shot put and discus at the high school level and worked as a javelin specialist at Dickinson College, where he coached Jesse Fleischmann and John Bingham.
Thielemann earned his B.S. in Secondary Education from Penn State in 2010, where he competed as a thrower. At the conclusion of his career, Thielemann made one NCAA East Regional Championship and was ranked sixth all-time in the men’s discus. In addition to the discus, Thielemann threw the shot put, hammer and weight.
He is an International Development in Education student who hopes to earn an M.A. in Comparative International Education.
