John Sibel is in the second season of his second stint on the Mountain Hawks’ coaching staff. Sibel will coach Lehigh’s wide receivers after working with the running backs during his first stint in 2017-18.

The 2021 season saw Lehigh rely on a balanced core of receivers, with six wideouts catching at least 10 passes. Four receivers: Eric Johnson, Jalen Burbage, Roemello Miner and Johnny Foley, all caught at least 20 passes and all should be key contributors in 2022.

Sibel was the running backs coach for Lehigh’s Patriot League championship season from 2017. That year, he worked with a stable of backs that was led by consensus All-American Dominick Bragalone, who led the FCS in total rushing yards and scoring and became the first Lehigh player to record three 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Bragalone gained 1,388 yards as a junior and rushed for 18 touchdowns. Behind Bragalone, Micco Brisker and Nana Amankwah-Ayeh combined to rush for eight touchdowns and nearly 500 yards.

The Yardley, Pennsylvania native spent the previous three seasons as a graduate assistant at the University of Connecticut.

Sibel initially came to Lehigh from Susquehanna University, where he was the team’s wide receivers coach and assistant special teams coordinator. At Susquehanna, Sibel mentored the Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year as well as a pair of receivers who received All-Conference honors. Sibel was also responsible for coordinating Susquehanna’s kickoff return and punt return units.

Before Susquehanna, Sibel was a wide receiver at Lycoming College from 2011-15. He was a three-time All-MAC Academic Team member and on the field ranked second on the team in receptions and receiving yards in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Sibel earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Lycoming in 2015.
