WHY LEHIGH? “I chose Lehigh because it felt the most fitting. It is close to home, is the perfect size and offers a strong education. I also planned to study engineering and Lehigh is well known for its engineering program.”

ON THE COACHING STAFF: “I have a lot of respect for both Coach Harding and Coach Conley because they have a lot of experience in competitive rowing, and they know what it means and what it takes to make a successful program. They are very dedicated to the sport and they know how to gain the respect of their team. In the short time they have coached me, I have learned a lot from them.”

AS A FRESHMAN (2010-11): Member of the Freshmen Four that finished second in the Lehigh River Cup (4/16) (6:57.60) … Stroke one for the Freshmen Four that placed second at the Neuweiler Plate (4/2) with a time of 7:54.93 … Stroke two for the first flight of the Varsity Four that won the Frostbite Regatta (11/13) with a time of 6:18.88. Also part of the second flight that won the Regatta as well (7:00.96).

BEFORE LEHIGH: Three-year letterwinner in cross country and winter track … Four-year letterwinner in spring track … Was the cross country and track and field team captain in 2009-10 … Received high school’s Scholar-Athlete Award and Morris County Scholar-Athlete Award … AP Scholar with distinction … Member of the National Honors Society … Also an Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar.

PERSONAL: Son of Gustavo and Lourdes Palacio … Has one sibling, Danica … Enjoys running and playing the guitar and piano … Lists parents as most admired people and German Fernandez as favorite athlete.
