WEST POINT, N.Y. - No. 6 seed Lehigh will face No. 1 seed Army in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals Friday at 4 p.m. at Blaik Field at Michie Stadium on CBS Sports Network.
Lehigh enters the contest fresh off a 16-15 overtime victory over Boston University in the Patriot League quarterfinals Tuesday night. The Mountain Hawks were led by Patriot League First Team All-League selection Luke Breslin and Second Team All-League honoree Luke Winkler, both scored a career-high five goals. Patriot League Rookie of the Year Finn Morgan tied a career high with three assists while adding two goals.
On defense, Patriot League Second Team selection and senior Luke McAuliffe helped slow down Timothy Shanahan, the NCAA leader in points per game this season. Shanahan, who scored six goals when the two teams met earlier this year, was held scoreless Tuesday night.
Patriot League Second Team and Academic All-Patriot League selection Kasey Heath was strong once again in goal, making 15 saves and coming up with multiple timely stops to help secure the victory for the Mountain Hawks.
In overtime, the Mountain Hawks and Terriers traded empty possessions after a strong defensive stand by Lehigh forced a shot clock violation. Kasey Heath then launched a full-field pass to Breslin, who finished a one-on-one opportunity with the BU goalkeeper to send Lehigh to the semifinals.Â
The Mountain Hawks enter Friday's semifinal with an 8-7 overall record and have won three straight games, scoring 14 or more goals in each contest.
Army enters the semifinal as the top seed in the Patriot League Tournament after earning a first-round bye as one of the league's top two seeds. The Black Knights are 11-3 overall this season and finished 6-2 in Patriot League play during the regular season. Army enters Friday's matchup riding a five-game winning streak and holds a perfect 6-0 record at home.
Army leads the all-time series against Lehigh 30-11, with the Mountain Hawks' last victory coming in 2022. The two teams also met in the 2023 Patriot League semifinals, where Army came away with the win.
