BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Villanova defeated Lehigh 5-2 on Sunday morning at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
With the loss, Lehigh slipped to 2-3 on the young season. With the win, Villanova improved to 3-4 overall.
"I liked how we came out in doubles and took that point, especially the fight from Skye and Audrey at No. 3," head coach Sophia Geier said. "Maggie showed a lot of grit at No. 1 singles and earned a big win. Villanova didn't give us much in singles, and we weren't able to turn momentum our way after doubles. We'll learn from it and get back to work."
The match began with Lehigh claiming the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. On court two, Lena Dogadalski and Giselle Vlassis earned a 6-3 victory over Villanova's Olivia Corcoran and Jenna Stevens. Skye Yonehara and Audrey Harrington secured the point for the Mountain Hawks with a 7-5 win over Miriam Gondorova and Lauren Monti on court three.
In singles play, Maggie Forkner was the lone Mountain Hawk to earn a victory, defeating Olivia Corcoran 6-3, 7-5. Villanova won the remaining singles matches to secure the 5-2 win.
