BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball will make the quick trip to Easton on Saturday to face rival Lafayette at 5 p.m. from the Kirby Sports Center.
Saturday's game will be the 250th all-time meeting between Lehigh (11-15, 7-6 PL) and Lafayette (8-18, 5-8 PL), with the Leopards leading 150-99. The Mountain Hawks have had great success in the series in recent years, winning eight of the past ten games. Lehigh defeated Lafayette 64-59 earlier this season on January 24 at Stabler Arena.
If Lehigh wins, Murray H. Goodman '48 head coach Brett Reed would win his 299th game, putting him only one away from becoming the second coach in Patriot League history to reach 300 wins. In addition, Reed's record vs. Lafayette would improve to 29-15.
A career-high 33 points from junior captain Nasir Whitlock and a team shooting percentage of 60.0% helped pave the way for a 90-82 Lehigh victory over American University on Wednesday evening at Stabler Arena. Whitlock shot an efficient 12-16 from the field and a perfect 6-6 from three. The junior added three rebounds and two assists and currently sits at 1,010 career points, making him the 42nd player in Lehigh history to surpass the 1,000-point barrier. Hank Alvey stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks. Andrew Urosevic added 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal in his first career start. Joshua Ingram scored ten points with eight rebounds, six assists, a block, and a steal.
The Leopards enter Saturday's contest having won three of their last five games and currently sit in eighth place in the Patriot League standings. Lafayette fell 68-54 to Loyola in its most recent outing on Wednesday. Caleb Williams leads the team and ranks fifth in the Patriot League at 16.1 points per game while Andrew Phillips (14.5 ppg), Mark Butler (10.0 ppg) and Shareef Jackson (10.0 ppg) also average double-figure points.
