BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball returns home on Wednesday evening to host American University for the Stabler Winter Games, presented by The Marshall. Olympic-themed games will be played with the chance to win prizes and more.
Lehigh (10-15, 6-6 PL) owns a 34-30 advantage over American (13-12, 6-6 PL) in the all-time series. The two games between the Mountain Hawks and Eagles last season were decided by one point and an overtime period, both of which were won by American. Both teams are currently tied for third place in the league standings.
If Lehigh wins, head coach Brett Reed would win his 298th game, putting him only two away from becoming the second coach in Patriot League history to reach 300 wins. In addition, Reed's record vs. American would improve to 24-15. Junior guard Nasir Whitlock sits only 23 points away from reaching 1,000 for his career.
Lehigh played its second consecutive road game on Saturday afternoon from Hart Center Arena against the Holy Cross Crusaders. A second half comeback propelled the Crusaders to a 76-67 victory on their home court. After reaching a new career-high of 27 points on Wednesday, Hank Alvey surpassed that mark with 28 points on 13-15 shooting. The sophomore big man added six rebounds and a steal in the loss. Whitlock recorded his first career double-double, notching 18 points, a career-high 10 rebounds, and five assists. Both Joshua Ingram and Jalen Vazquez also dished out five assists.
American enters Wednesday's contest with a league record of 6-6, having lost their last four games. AU most recently fell 82-73 to first-place Navy in Annapolis on Saturday. The Eagles are the defending Patriot League champions, having finished with a record of 22-13 and 13-5 in league play last season. Freshman Madden Collins leads the team offensively at 13.0 points per game off the bench.
Following Wednesday's game, the Mountain Hawks will make the quick trip to Easton to take on rival Lafayette on Saturday, February 14 at 5 p.m.
