BALTIMORE, Md.- Wednesday evening the Lehigh Mountain Hawks picked up their fifth Patriot League win of the season, defeating Loyola Maryland 67-61 in overtime. With the win, Lehigh moves to 5-2 in Patriot league play and 9-8 overall on the season. Loyola slides to 8-10 overall and 4-3 in the league.Â
Lily Fandre and Whitney Lind led the way for the Mountain Hawks. Fandre scored a career-high 32 points on 64% shooting from the field, including converting on three of five attempts from 3-point range.Â
"We talk a lot about togetherness and toughness in practice, and I think we really showed that tonight. I'm very happy we got the win," Fandre shared postgame.Â
Lind reached the 20-point mark for the second time this season, finishing with 24 points. She connected on seven of 13 field-goal attempts and knocked down 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Lind scored 20 of her points in the fourth quarter and overtime combined, including knocking down a three with just over two minutes remaining that pulled Lehigh within one. She later tied the game at the free-throw line to force overtime. In the extra period, Lind drilled a 3-pointer to give Lehigh a three-point lead and added key free throws to help the Mountain Hawks seal the win.
Head coach Addie Micir spoke about the victory: "Fandre and Lind came up big, but this was a full-team effort on both sides of the ball."
Micir spoke about the two new additions to the roster, Cyndea Labissiere and Melani Dowling: "Labissiere gave us a spark tonight, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and Dowling has been tremendous at practice. They are both team-first players, and them stepping up for us is what Lehigh Athletics is all about."
How it Happened
After falling behind 8-2 in the first quarter, Belle Bramer converted a three-point play, and Myrto Lianoudi followed with a corner three to tie the score at 8-8. Lehigh and Loyola traded baskets for the remainder of the period, with Loyola holding a 14-13 lead after one.
In the second quarter, the Greyhounds built a 12-point lead behind scoring from Lex Therien and Koi Sims, who finished with 18 and 19 points, respectively. With Lehigh down by 12, Lily Fandre sparked a run, scoring five straight points, including knocking down a three and  adding key free throws to bring the Mountain Hawks within three at halftime, 31-28.
Early in the third quarter, Fandre continued to attack the basket, converting multiple times and she was able to drop in some for three throws. Loyola responded with a pair of three-pointers, and then Therien converted two layups, allowing the Greyhounds to take a 44-40 lead into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was when Whitney Lind came alive, scoring clutch basket after clutch basket and eventually tying the game at the free-throw line with 20 seconds remaining. Loyola had the final possession in regulation with the score tied at 57, but Alana Reddy came up with her second steal of the night, preventing Loyola from getting a shot off and sending the game into overtime.
