BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh senior linebacker Brycen Edwards has been named one of 177 semifinalists for the 2025 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation announced Wednesday. The William V. Campbell Trophy recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.

A Fredericksburg, Va., native, Edwards holds a 3.34 GPA majoring in accounting and finance. He is a two-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and made Lehigh's Dean's List with a GPA better than 3.6 in the Fall 2024 semester.

Lehigh's top tackler in 2024 with 90 stops, Edwards was a Preseason All-Patriot League honoree. He leads the Mountain Hawks with 26 tackles through four games and has added a tackle for loss, a pass breakup and a pair of quarterback hurries.

Edwards made a career-high 12 tackles in Lehigh's NCAA playoff win at Richmond last November and opened this season with a team-leading eight tackles against the Spiders.

For his career, Edwards has 166 tackles, seven tackles for loss, a sack and an interception. He has played 33 career games with 26 starts at linebacker.

This marks the seventh time in the last nine years that a Lehigh football player has been named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy. Mike DeNucci was recognized last year and before that recent semifinalists included Christian Jablonski (2023), RaShawn Allen (2021), Pete Haffner (2020), Harrison Kauffman (2018) and Jimmy Mitchell (2017).

The 177 semifinalists were nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee per school. Candidates must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility and must have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale while also displaying outstanding football ability and strong leadership and citizenship. The candidates come from all levels of play in the NCAA and the NAIA. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.

From the 177 semifinalists, the National Football Foundation will announce 12-16 finalists on October 22 and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. One of the finalists will be named the winner of the 36th Campbell Trophy during the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 9 and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

The Mountain Hawks return to Goodman Stadium on Saturday to host Penn on Family Weekend, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute, part of Jefferson Health, with game time set for noon. Tickets can be purchased at LehighTickets.com or by calling 610-758-4263 during business hours.
