Lehigh Drops 5-2 Result To SMU To Conclude Spring Break Trip

DALLAS – Lehigh men's tennis concluded action from its spring break trip to Texas against the SMU Mustangs on Wednesday evening. The Mountain Hawks picked up two wins but ultimately lost 5-2 to the Mustangs.
SMU (11-10) earned the opening doubles point over Lehigh (5-6), first picking up a 6-2 win over Jose Murariu and Luke Donovan. SMU's Vikas Deo and Xavier Calvelo defeated Jackson Morash and Nate Raney 6-1 while the doubles match at number one was left unfinished.
Georgi Georgiev's two-set win at number three kickstarted singles play for the Mustangs. Jerry Barton then defeated Murariu in two sets at number one, setting the Mustangs one win away from the clinch.
The next match to finish was at number six, where Wyeth Anzilotti picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win to get Lehigh on the board. The Mountain Hawks earned another point when SMU's Calvelo retired at number five, awarding the win to Benedict Horn-Bourque. However, wins at numbers five and two clinched a 5-2 victory for the Mustangs.
The Mountain Hawks will have more than a week off, as their next match is slated for Sunday, March 23 against Saint Francis in Loretto, Pa.
