Four Mountain Hawks Reach Double Figures in Ninth Straight Win

2/12/2025 8:54:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's basketball cruised to its ninth straight victory on Swifties and Swishes Night, picking up a 74-65 win over Navy Wednesday night at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks improved to 20-4 (11-1 PL), while the Midshipmen dropped to 15-8 (7-5 PL).

"It feels great," said head coach Addie Micir. "The team is playing so hard, and they're such a fun group. To do it on Swifties and Swishes Night was special."

Lehigh's 20 wins mark the eighth time the Mountain Hawks have reached 20 wins in a season and the first time since the 2018-2019 season. Four Mountain Hawks recorded double figures on Wednesday, with junior forward Lily Fandre netting a team-high 17 points.

"We told Lily to be aggressive, and more importantly than her points, her cutting was tough. She grabbed the ball with two hands, was aggressive, and when she gets going, it helps everybody else," Micir said. "Four players in double figures— we're really hard to guard when that happens."

Fifth-year senior wing Maddie Albrecht tallied 16 points, while senior forward Meghan O'Brien and senior guard Colleen McQuillen both chipped in 10 points apiece.

Senior guard Ella Stemmer opened the scoring with a three-pointer 25 seconds into the game, and the Mountain Hawks would hold the lead for the remainder of the game. Stemmer finished with nine points and is one point away from her 1,000th career point.

Wednesday's game featured two ties. It was tied at 13 at the first media timeout with 4:40 left in the first quarter, and both teams remained scoreless until Fandre scored a driving layup with one second left to give Lehigh the 15-13 edge. The Mountain Hawks outscored the Midshipmen 25-13 in the second quarter to propel Lehigh to a 40-26 halftime lead.

Despite the 14-point lead, the Midshipmen used an 8-0 run to help cut their deficit. Navy tied the game at 53 with 1:07 remaining in the third quarter, but Lehigh ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a 57-53 lead heading into the final period. The fourth quarter proved to be the difference, with Lehigh outscoring Navy 17-3 in the final 10 minutes.

The Mountain Hawks were effective on Wednesday, shooting 29-of-55 from the field (52.7%) and 8-of-24 (33.3%) from long range. The Midshipmen shot 22-of-61 (36.1%) and 6-of-23 (26.1%) from deep.

Lehigh recorded 18 assists on its 28 made field goals, with Albrecht dishing out a game-high five assists. Stemmer and McQuillen both finished with four assists. Albrecht also recorded a game-high three steals.

Zanai Barnett-Gay scored a game-high 26 points to lead the way for the Midshipmen.

Next up, the Mountain Hawks will take on Holy Cross on Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
