NEW YORK – Lehigh first-year Aubre Krazer went 3-0 Friday to win the 59 kg title at the prestigious Bill Farrell Memorial International, held at the New York Athletic Club. Krazer defeated fellow American Michaela Beck 12-6 in the finals to claim the title, leading the way for the eight Lehigh wrestlers who competed Friday at the NYAC.
Krazer advanced to the finals with a 9-7 decision over Brenda Reyna (USA) and then edged Altjin Togtokh of Mongolia 4-3 in the semifinals. In her finals bout, Krazer scored first on a step out and then traded takedowns with Beck to take a 3-2 lead at the break. Beck opened the scoring in the second period to take a 4-3 lead but a caution point tied the bout at 4-4. Krazer then went ahead with a takedown and added two leg laces to go up 10-4. Another takedown extended the lead to 12-4 before Beck scored a takedown in the final seconds.
The victory at 59 kg also earned Krazer the outstanding wrestler award for women's freestyle.
In August, Krazer was one of four Mountain Hawks to compete at the UWW U20 World Championships in Samakov, Bulgaria. Krazer finished fifth at 59 kg in Bulgaria.
Another of Lehigh's U20 World team members, first-year Abbi Cooper, went 2-2 at 53 kg. Cooper pinned Yu Hsuan Chang of Chinese Taipei in her first round match and edged Clare Booe (USA) 8-8 on criteria in her first consolation bout.
At 65 kg, Makynna Loepp won her first bout by fall over France's Camille Burlet. Mary Manis competed at 59 kg and went 1-2, winning her first round consolation bout by fall over Mia Collins.
Also competing for the Mountain Hawks at the NYAC were Natalia Accorsi (55 kg), Kryssceah Ravenelle (62 kg), Morgan Edwards (62 kg) and Julia Fongaro (65 kg).
The Mountain Hawks will travel to Lock Haven for their first dual as a varsity program, Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.
