Lehigh Beats Lafayette for the 18th Straight Time, Break Seven Pool Records

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's swimming and diving hosted Lafayette on Friday night at Jacobs Pool for the 2025 edition of The Rivalry, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute, part of Jefferson Health. The Mountain Hawks collected their 18th straight rivalry victory, winning 210-89. Lehigh won fifteen of the sixteen events, breaking seven pool records in the process.
The first pool record was broken right off the bat. The team of first-year Eliza Johnson, sophomore Zoe Davies, sophomore Clara Moschella, and first-year Genevieve Cody swam the fastest 200-yard medley relay in Jacobs Pool, clocking in at 1:42.51.
Each of these women also set pool records in their individual events. Johnson layed down two individual pool records, the only one to do so. She did so in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming 55.03, then swam 2:00.89 in the same event over 200 yards. Both times were season and collegiate bests. Moschella set a new pool and personal record in the 100-yard butterfly. Her time of 54.46 knocked off the precious pool record, and was two-hundredths of a second faster than her personal college record. Cody set her record in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 51.09. She also won the 50-yard freestyle in personal best time, hitting the wall at 23.27.
Davies did not just break the pool record, but she also broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke. The record she broke was her own, lowering it 21 tenths of a second to 1:04.07.
"Zoe is always a ball full of energy who is ready to bring not only their fast race, but every bit of cheering and emotion," praised Head Coach Rob Herb. It is just so awesome to see her achieve over and over again in the same race in the same way."
The women also set a new Jacobs Pool record in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Cody and Johnson were also on this relay, joined by seniors Caitlin Deitch and Mairin Ludwig. The squad swam 3:22.97.
On top of being a part of a record setting relay, Ludwig also won three individual events. She won the 200-yard freestyle in a personal best time of 1:49.35. Her teammate, first-year Sophie Perry, also swam a personal best time in that event, coming in behind her at 1:53.29. Ludwig also won both the 500-yard freestyle and the 400-yard individual medley. She swam 4:55.01 swimming free, and swam 4:25.23 in the medley.
For the remaining swimming wins, the Mountain Hawks secured both of the top two spots. First-year Reagan Gilligan earned her first collegiate win in the 1000-yard freestyle. She swam a personal best time of 10:40.22. She was trailed closely by junior Eliza Meth. She finished second in 10:42.01, which was also a personal best time. Meth also finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke. Her time of 2:22.66 only trailed teammate Caitlin Hofmann, who won the race in 2:20.57. Prior to her record-setting relay, Caitlin Deitch won the 200-yard butterfly event. She swam a personal best 2:01.17 on her way to victory. Right behind her was Clara Moschella, who swam 2:02.86, which was also a personal best.
Lehigh also got an event win on the diving board. Junior Kate Whitaker scored 260.85 to lead the field at the three-meter height.
"The women came out." said Coach Herb. "The women stepped it up to a point where they just dominated everything and just brought so much emotion and so much energy to the meet. Just so many pool records, so much energy, it was a fantastic time."
The Mountain Hawks next compete on Saturday, December 6, where they face off against the Drexel Dragons on the road.
