NOVI SAD, Serbia – Lehigh sophomore Audrey Jimenez won her sixth career age group World medal and her second in 2025, claiming Silver while representing the United States at the U23 World Championships. Jimenez went 3-0 Wednesday to reach the finals before dropping her Gold Medal match 6-2 to Jinyue Liang of China on Thursday.
The silver medal caps a 2025 international season that saw Jimenez represent the United States in three age group world championships. Jimenez won silver at the U20 World Championships in Bulgaria in August and made her Senior World Championships debut in September in Zagreb, Croatia.
Thursday's Gold Medal Match saw Jimenez strike first against Liang with a takedown 45 seconds into the opening period. Liang answered with a takedown midway through the period and took the lead with a takedown plus a two-point exposure as Jimenez fought off her back. Down 6-2 at the break, Jimenez pushed the action in the second period but was unable to secure the points necessary to come back.
On Wednesday, Jimenez had to overcome a 6-0 deficit in her first match against Svenja Jungo of Switzerland. A big second period led to a come-from-behind 12-6 victory. Jimenez defeated Nohalis Alejandra Loyo Jimenez of Venezuela 10-0 in the quarterfinals and secured her spot in the finals with a 5-2 decision over Aida Kermyova of Ukraine. A first period step out point and a second period takedown and leg lace provided the scoring in Jimenez's semifinal victory.
Jimenez's six age group medals now include five silvers and one bronze.
The Tucson, Arizona native will now rejoin her Lehigh teammates in preparation for the Mountain Hawks' inaugural varsity season, which begins Nov. 2 with the East Stroudsburg Open. Lehigh will host two home events, a tri-meet with East Stroudsburg and Delaware State on Dec. 4 and a Jan. 30 dual versus Presbyterian.
