
Lehigh Splits Tri-Meet Against Loyola and American in Season Opener

BALTIMORE - Lehigh men's swimming and diving kicked off the season on Saturday afternoon against Loyola and American. The Mountain Hawks lost 250-48 to the Greyhounds, but picked up the win against the Eagles 209-84.
It was sophomore Jack Deppe who made the biggest impact for Lehigh, finishing within the top five over all three of his individual events. His best placing was the 200-yard individual medley, where he finished second. His time of 1:54.41 was just 11 hundredths of a second behind the top finisher. Deppe came fourth in both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 46.69 over 100 and 1:42.88 over 200.
In the backstroke events, senior Ben Kisker worked his way to two top finishes. Kisker finished the 200-yard backstroke sixth, swimming 1:55.26. In the 100-yard backstroke, he swam 51.87 and finished 5th. Right behind him were sophomore Tristan Ronayne (52.29) and junior Matt McLellan (52.85), who finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
Two first-years started their careers with podium finishers in their respective events. Spencer Campbell placed third in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming 1:53.88. Andrew Takach finished the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08.97, which also gave him third place.
Lehigh had top-five finishers in both the longest and shortest freestyle events of the day. The 1000-yard freestyle event, first-year TJ Hayes opened up his collegiate career with a fourth place finish, swimming 9:51.36. In the shortest event of the day, the 50-yard freestyle, the Mountain Hawks had a pair of sophomores place within the top-five. Chase Bearley placed fourth, finishing at 21.35. Davis Woerner finished a fraction of a second behind him at 21.40, placing fifth.
The Mountain Hawks concluded their season opener with the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Woerner, Bearley, Aaron Williams, and Frankie Prekop finished in 1:25.08, which placed them third.
Lehigh looks ahead to next weekend, where the Mountain Hawks have two separate dual meets at home. The Mountain Hawks first face off against West Chester at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by Rider at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
