
Lehigh Battles Loyola in League Home Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's basketball returns home for the first time in 2025 on Sunday against Loyola at 2 p.m. The Mountain Hawks will be looking to continue their undefeated streak at Stabler, entering Sunday's game with a 6-0 record at home.Â
The Mountain Hawks are 10-3 (1-0 PL) overall. The Greyhounds are 6-6 (0-1 PL). Lehigh defeated Bucknell 65-53 in the Patriot League opener on Jan. 2. Fifth-year senior wing Maddie Albrecht led the way for Lehigh, scoring a game-high of 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field.Â
Lehigh led by as many as 20 points against the Bison. Bucknell cut Lehigh's lead to four points with four minutes remaining, but the Mountain Hawks responded with a 7-0 run. Albrecht had five of Lehigh's seven points during the run.Â
Senior guard Ella Stemmer also finished in double figures against Bucknell, tallying 12 points of her own. Stemmer knocked down two three-pointers against Bucknell, including one with 30 seconds remaining that helped seal the game for Lehigh to give the Mountain Hawks a double-digit lead.Â
Senior forward Meghan O'Brien finished with nine points against Bucknell while also grabbing a game-high seven rebounds and three steals.Â
Albrecht has put together an impressive season so far, averaging a team-high 14.2 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game. She has finished in double figures in 11 of Lehigh's 13 games. She leads the league in field goal percentage (52.3%).Â
The Greyhounds suffered a 49-46 loss to Holy Cross on Jan. 2 in the league opener. The Greyhounds went on an 11-4 run to close the game, but it would not be enough. Kailey Kalet and Amandine Amorich both scored 11 points apiece for the Greyhounds.
Loyola is led by Kimmie Hicks, who is averaging 14.6 points per game. Hicks is one of four players averaging double figures for the Greyhounds. Lex Therien averages 13.3 points per game, Laura Salmeron averages 13.2 points per game, and Amorich is fourth in scoring with 10.0 points per game.
Therien, the Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year, has not played since Nov. 18 against St. John's. The Greyhounds were also selected first in the preseason poll, receiving 10 first-place votes.
Lehigh is 18-10 all-time against Loyola. The Mountain Hawks suffered three losses to Loyola last season, including a 58-51 loss in the Patriot League quarterfinal.
Following Sunday's game, Lehigh returns home on Wednesday against Colgate at 6 p.m. Wednesday's game will be aired on ESPN+.Â
