BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Peter E. Bennett '63 head baseball coach Sean Leary has announced the additions of two new assistant coaches to his staff. Lehigh great Casey Rother and Nick Fazio will round out Leary's coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season.
Rother is no stranger to the Lehigh Valley, as the former Mountain Hawk played collegiately under Leary for five seasons. He is one of the most accomplished players in team history, being one of two players in program history to be named to First Team All-Patriot League three times. Rother is the program's all-time leader in home runs (32) and RBIs (168), ranks second in hits (234) and fourth in at bats (723) and doubles (47). He was a Third Team Collegiate Baseball All-American in 2022, an ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region First Team selection in 2023 and a two-time Patriot League Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022.
"I am really excited to have Casey Rother returning to the program as our hitting coach," said Leary. "As a two-time Patriot League Player of the Year and record holder in numerous career categories, his accolades are very impressive. Casey's accomplishments were directly correlated to his work ethic and determination. I know the players in our program are anxious to develop under his tutelage."
"I am thrilled to be back at Lehigh," said Rother. "Lehigh was a home for me as a player and now it's a home for me as a coach. I feel incredibly lucky that I'm able to pass on everything I learned as a student and a player to help others have the same great experience I had."
Fazio joins the Lehigh baseball program after spending last season as a volunteer assistant coach at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee. Prior to his time with the Golden Eagles, Fazio worked with the University of Louisville baseball program as a graduate assistant for the 2022 and 2023 seasons and worked as an assistant coach for the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League in 2023. A native of Kings Park, New York, Fazio played collegiately at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
"Coach Fazio came strongly recommended by some highly respected baseball folks," said Leary. "Adding his energy and expertise to the staff will be a huge asset for the program."
"I am so grateful to have this opportunity here at Lehigh University," said Fazio. "We look forward to a fall semester full of learning and growth as we prepare for the upcoming season."
