
Lehigh Closes Out Regular Season at Lafayette Friday Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Rivalry returns to Easton Friday night as Lehigh men's lacrosse squares off against Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. at Fisher Stadium in the regular season finale. The Mountain Hawks are looking to close out the regular season on a high note after winning three straight games.Â
The Mountain Hawks can be as high as the No. 2 seed and as low as the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. If Lehigh is the two seed, Lehigh will have a bye and play in the Patriot League semifinal on May 3. If Lehigh is the three or four seed, Lehigh will host a Patriot League quarterfinal game on April 30.
Lehigh comes into the game with a 7-6 record and a 5-2 Patriot League record. The Leopards are 6-6 (2-5 PL). The Mountain Hawks are coming off of a 13-12 win over No. 20 Boston University. Dakota Eierman scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift Lehigh to its second straight ranked win.The Mountain Hawks trailed 9-4 with five minutes remaining in the third quarter, but Lehigh ended the game on a 9-3 run to secure the comeback win.Â
Scott Cole led the way with a team-high of four goals and was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on April 22. Cole leads the way with a team-high 39 points (33G, 6A). Cole has accumulated 123 career goals and is just five goals away from tying Dan Taylor '15 and Mark Duncan '98 for the most career goals in program history with 128. If Cole scores six goals, he would become the program's all-time leading goal scorer.
Andrew Kelly is second on the team in scoring with 30 points posting 19 goals and 11 assists. Kelly dished out a team-high of three assists against the Terriers. Quinn Armstrong is third on the team in scoring with 29 points (23G, 6A). Armstrong has recorded a hat trick in Lehigh's last three games.
Richard Checo was named the Patriot League Defensive Player on Monday after recording a game-high of five caused turnovers. He also helped seal the victory over the Terriers, causing the turnover with 2:12 remaining in overtime, which led to Eierman's game-winning goal. Checo is second in the nation in caused turnovers per game (2.54). Checo is third in program history in caused turnovers per game with 87 after passing Teddy Leggett's 86 career caused turnovers.Â
Sean Dow earned Patriot League honorable mention after winning 16-of-29 faceoffs against Boston University while grabbing eight ground balls. Dow also scored his first career goal. Through Lehigh's seven league games, Dow has posted a 63% win percentage at the stripe, which is second in the league.Â
Lafayette is winners of its last two games after defeating Boston University 11-10 on April 13 and Le Moyne 15-9 on April 19.Â
The Leopards are led by Charlie Cunnife, who has put up a team-high of 47 points on 29 goals and 18 assists. Peter Lehman is second on the team in scoring with 35 points (22G, 13A) Joe Doherty has started every game in net for Lafayette, recording a 50.9% save percentage. .Â
Lehigh is 74-21-1 all-time against Lafayette. The Mountain Hawks have won the last 15 meetings. The last time Lehigh lost was April 18, 2009 where the Leopards pulled out a 9-8 victory. Lehigh defeated Lafayette twice last season, most recently picking up a 12-8 win over the Leopards in a Patriot League quarterfinal.Â
