Mountain Hawks Open Up Patriot League Play at Home vs. Navy

3/8/2024 2:16:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men's lacrosse will open up Patriot League play against Navy at home on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Mountain Hawks (2-3) are looking to capture their first win at home this season after suffering a 14-8 loss to Villanova in the home opener on March 2.

The Midshipmen are 3–2 (1-0 PL). Navy opened up league play on March 2 with a dominating 16-9 victory over Boston University.

Saturday's game will be the first ticketed game of the season. Students will get in free, while others can purchase tickets here or by calling 610-7LU-GAME.

Senior midfielder Quinn Armstrong led the way against the Wildcats last week, tallying a season-high four points (2G, 2A). Senior attackman Scott Cole was the only other player besides Armstrong to net multiple goals, as he tallied two goals of his own. Cole has recorded 107 goals, which ranks eight all-time at Lehigh. He needs just one more goal to tie Andrew Lucas '05 for the seventh-most goals in program history.

Cole has put up a team-high 18 goals this season. Cole's 3.80 goals per game are the most in the league right now and the 12th-most in the NCAA. Sophomore attackman Andrew Kelly and Armstrong are tied for second on the team in scoring, both tallying eight points in Lehigh's five games this season.

Senior goalkeeper Nick Pecora earned a Patriot League honorable mention on March 4 after he eclipsed 29 saves in two games for Lehigh. Pecora totaled 15 saves and a career-high 71.4% save percentage in the 11-6 win over Dartmouth. He followed that up with another double digit save performance against Villanova, tallying 14 saves after facing a season-high of 39 shots. Pecora is tallying 12.60 saves per game, which ranks 12th in the NCAA.

Navy is led by Xavier Airline, who has scored 15 points (10G, 5A). The Midshipmen are first in the league in faceoff percentage (60.5). Freshman faceoff specialist Zach Hayashi is the main reason the Midshipmen are leading the league in that category. Hayashi has won 62.9% of his battles at the stripe.

Lehigh is 13-33 all-time against the Midshipmen, but the Mountain Hawks have won the last six meetings. Lehigh also opened up league play last year against Navy, and the Mountain Hawks won 13-10 on March 4 after using a 5-2 run in the fourth quarter. Cole, Aidan Decker and Dakota Eierman both netted two goals in last year's game.

Lehigh last lost to Navy on March 24, 2018, falling 10-7 at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

Following Saturday's league opener, the Mountain Hawks will go back on the road when they take on Army West Point on March 16 at 12 p.m.
