Lehigh Heads To Penn, Opens Patriot League Season At Lafayette

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a 4-2 week, Lehigh baseball gears up for another midweek test and the start of league play this weekend. The Mountain Hawks will battle the Penn Quakers on Wednesday before opening Patriot League play against Lafayette College.
Lehigh (12-5-1) split a back-to-back last week for their home opening games, falling to Saint Joseph's while defeating Coppin State. The Mountain Hawks then began a home-and-home series against Saint Peter's, earning a 6-1 win over the Peacocks at home. Lehigh then split a doubleheader on Saturday, dropping game two of the series before winning 18-8 in game three. The Mountain Hawks concluded the series with a 19-8 win in a game that only lasted eight innings.
Penn (7-9) enters Wednesday's contest after completing a three-game series against Lafayette. The Quakers won the series 2-1, winning games one and three 8-1 and 22-8 while dropping game two 6-3. Penn is led by Davis Baker, who bats .368 on the season on a team-best 25 hits. Joining him with batting averages above .300 are Nick Spaventa (.364), Connor Chavez (.339) and Taylor Ryan (.300).
Lafayette (3-15) dropped their series against Penn last weekend and now sets their sights on a midweek clash against Rutgers on Wednesday. Outside of their game two win against the Quakers, the Leopards other wins came against Delaware (3/2) and Richmond (3/13). Ben Petrone leads Lafayette with a .290 batting average and a team-leading five home runs.
