Lehigh Suffers 1-0 Loss to Navy on Senior Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A goal in the sixth minute from Navy's A.J. Schuetz would be the difference as Lehigh men's soccer suffered a 1-0 loss Saturday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex on Senior Night. At halftime, Lehigh recognized seniors Ryan Gross, Perry Kingson and Tommy Zipprich.Â
"If we played the first half like we did in the second half, we probably would have been okay," said head coach Dean Koski. "We didn't assert ourselves in the first half, and we gave up an unfortunate goal early on. We woke up a little bit, but it was too little too late."
With the loss, the Mountain Hawks dropped to 5-8-3 (3-3-1 PL) and the Midshipmen improved to 3-6-4 (3-3-1 PL). Lehigh had plenty of opportunities on Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks outshot the Midshipmen 19-10. Lehigh also held a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
"We certainly created a lot of shots," Koski said. "I thought Pierce Holbrook was really good and made some really good saves, but we had enough chances. We should have put one in the back of the net. It's one of those games that's really frustrating because in the second half we did all the things I wanted them to do."
Junior defender Sam Davis had the best chance for Lehigh on a header that came in the 58th minute but Holbrook was there for the save.Â
Holbrook had an incredible game, recording nine saves for Navy. Lehigh senior goalkeeper Blake Koski made his first start in net since Oct. 5. Koski played all 90 minutes and totaled three saves.
Sophomore forward Thomas Robertson and first-year forward Giacomo Zizza recorded a team-high of four shots.Â
The Mountain Hawks wrap up their home slate on Friday against Colgate at 6 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Friday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
