Lehigh Ends Non-League Slate With 0-0 Draw Versus Fairfield

BETHLEHEM, Pa . - Lehigh men's soccer ended its non-league slate with a 0-0 tie against Fairfield Tuesday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Tuesday night's game was Lehigh's Pride Game, presented by Lehigh's Pride Center and Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Equity. The Mountain Hawks also extended their unbeaten streak to five straight games. Lehigh is now 5-6-3 while the Stags are 2-6-3.Â
"I thought we came out a little bit flat," said head coach Dean Koski. "We were short some starters and that can impact us, but it shouldn't because we want to make sure that guys who don't get a lot of chances to play get excited. I thought the guys who came off the bench did a nice job and gave us a little bit of a lift in the first half. It is nice to play a game like this and get a shutout. We don't get points on it, but a draw is a fair result."
First-year forward Bora Turker gave Lehigh its best opportunity of the night on a shot in the 70th minute but Fairfield's Viktor Nikolov was there for the diving save. Turker had a game-high of four shots on Tuesday.Â
Senior goalkeeper Ryan Gross recorded the clean sheet, which was also the third shutout of the season for him and Lehigh. Gross tallied three saves on Tuesday.Â
Lehigh held a 16-11 advantage in shots, a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.Â
 "We learned a lot about ourselves during non-league play," Koski said. "We have matured in good ways and we have grown into ourselves. We are who we are at this stage, so we just have to be really good at executing from here on in."
Next up, the Mountain Hawks will take on Loyola on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Baltimore. Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+.Â
