
Lehigh Suffers Setback to Loyola

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Looking to grab its first Patriot League win of the season, Lehigh women's basketball fell short in a 73-65 loss to Loyola Saturday afternoon at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks had won the previous nine meetings.
"We have to start better, said head coach Addie Micir. "That's one of the things we're going to take a look at. But besides that, Loyola made plays down the stretch when they needed to. They came out in the fourth quarter, and really took it to us. We worked so hard to get a four-point lead, but we couldn't get a stop. defensivley.
Lehigh is now 8-5 (0-2 PL), and the Greyhounds are 6-7 (1-1 PL). Despite having one of the better shooting performances of the season, going 24-of-52 from the field (46.2%), the Greyhounds had an even better performance as they went 28-of-52 (53.8%).
While the Mountain Hawks shot 46% from the field, they struggled from beyond the arc, going just 5-of-22 (22.7%).
Lehigh also finished with a season-low of 11 turnovers, but the Mountain Hawks struggled to stop Loyola's hot shooting.
Lily Fandre was a bright spot for the Mountain Hawks on Saturday, recording a career-high of 25 points. Fandre's previous career-high was 22 points, which she scored against La Salle on Dec. 7. Fandre was 9-of-17 and 3-of-5 from downtown on Saturday.
"You have to give Lily props," Micir said. "That kid loves to play basketball, and she loves the big time moments in the game. I'm just so pumped for her that she can come in night in and out and enjoy playing."
Meghan O'Brien also finished in double figures as she had 10 points of her own.
Lex Therien and Laura Salmeron both netted 20 points for the Greyhounds.
It was a close game on Saturday, but the difference would be the fourth quarter as the Greyhounds outscored the Mountain Hawks 25-17 in the final 10 minutes after the teams were all square at 48-48 after three quarters.
Loyola had control for the majority of the game and led by as many as 11 in the second quarter.
Despite the double figures lead, Lily Fandre went on an 8-0 run by herself in the second quarter to cut Lehigh's deficit to two with 4:34 remaining in the second quarter.
The Greyhounds went into halftime with a 33-29 lead.
In the third quarter, Lehigh started chipping away at Loyola's lead. Maddie Albrecht made a layup with 3:02 left in the quarter to put the Mountain Hawks up by four, and that would be the largest lead of the game for Lehigh.
Every time Lehigh would respond with a bucket, Loyola would answer right back. Meghan O'Brien scored a layup in the fourth quarter to put Lehigh up by one with 8:28 remaining, and that would be the last lead of the game for the Mountain Hawks.
Loyola held Lehigh to just four made field goals in the final 10 minutes.
The Greyhounds held a 27-14 advantage on the boards on Saturday.
Lehigh will look to bounce back with a game against Bucknell on Wednesday in Lewisburg, Pa. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
