1/5/2024 11:51:00 AM | Men's Basketball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's basketball continues their Patriot League season following the league opening night this past Wednesday. After dropping their first league matchup, the Mountain Hawks aim to get back on track in a matchup against Loyola Maryland on Saturday.
Lehigh (3-9, 0-1 PL) and Loyola (2-12, 0-1 PL) have faced off against one another 30 times all-time with the series knotted at 15-15. The Mountain Hawks and the Greyhounds have been fairly evenly matched recently, as the two schools are 5-5 in their previous ten meetings. Lehigh and Loyola split games last season, with the Mountain Hawks winning the first matchup 74-70 on January 16 in Baltimore while the Greyhounds picked up a 91-82 win on February 11 in Bethlehem.
Both teams are looking for their first Patriot League win of the season following Wednesday night's slate of games. A win for either team would give them a slight advantage in the all-time series and a stronger position in the Patriot League standings.
Lehigh opened Patriot League play on the road at American on Wednesday, falling to the Eagles 75-66 in Washington. Junior Tyler Whitney-Sidney put on a show for the Mountain Hawk faithful in attendance, scoring a career-best 26 points to go along with a team-high five assists. Keith Higgins Jr. and Jalin Sinclair joined him in double-figures with 13 and ten points respectively, however, only six total players recorded points for Lehigh. A solid defensive effort and efficient night shooting helped propel the Eagles to victory. Higgins still leads the league in scoring at 16.3 points per game headed into Saturday's contest.
Loyola enters Saturday's matchup against Lehigh with a 2-12 record, having picked up an overtime win against Brown in November and a win against St. Mary's (Md.) in December. The Greyhounds opened Patriot League play on the road against preseason favorite Colgate, dropping a 78-55 decision to the Raiders. Sophomore guard Deon Perry leads Loyola in scoring, posting a mark of 13.9 points per game. The 5'8 guard also leads the Greyhounds in assists (47), steals (19) and three-pointers made (36). 6'10 fifth-year Golden Dike enters Saturday's contest as the second-leading rebounder in the Patriot League at a mark of 7.4 per game.
Saturday's game will be aired on ESPN+ and can also be listened to on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
