Lehigh Aims to Capture Series Sweep on Wednesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Winners of two straight games, Lehigh women's basketball will look to keep it going with a matchup at Navy on Wednesday at 7 p.m. 

The Mountain Hawks are 12-7 (4-4 PL), and the Midshipmen are 6-13 (2-6 PL). In its last outing on Jan. 27, Lehigh defeated Holy Cross 70-60. The Crusaders were 7-0 in Patriot League play and were riding a nine-game win streak before falling to the Mountain Hawks. 

Maddie Albrecht scored a game-high of 17 points to lead the way. Albrecht was most recently named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 22 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals. The senior forward has finished in double figures in each of the last five games. She is averaging 9.5 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game. Albrecht is also shooting 53.6% from the field.

Meghan O'Brien and Lily Fandre also tallied double figures against Holy Cross. O'Brien tallied 15 points and had a career-high of four three pointers on four attempts. Fandre recorded her second double-double of his career after corralling a career-high of 14 rebounds and scoring 11  points. 

Kaylee Van Eps was one point away from finishing in double figures as she tallied a season-high of nine points. Van Eps also had a team-high of four assists. 

Wednesday's game will mark the second meeting of the season between Lehigh and Navy. The Mountain Hawks defeated the Midshipmen 81-65 on Jan. 15. Four Mountain Hawks finished in double figures, led by Ella Stemmer, who scored a game-high 21 points. Albrecht (18 points), O'Brien (15 points) and Jamie Behar (10 points) were the three players who also tallied  double figures. 

Zanai Barnett-Gay led the way for Navy with 18 points. In the first meeting, Navy struggled to defend Lehigh's three-point shooting, as the Mountain Hawks went 12-of-28 from distance (42.9%). 

Lehigh is 20th in the nation in three-pointers made per game with 8.6. Navy is making 5.3 three-pointers per game. Ella Stemmer leads Lehigh and the Patriot League with 2.7 three-pointers per game. Stemmer's 14.5 points per game are a team-high and the fifth-most in the league.

Lehigh is 37-33 all-time against Navy after winning the last nine meetings. The last time the Midshipmen defeated the Mountain Hawks was on Jan. 27, 2018. 

Wednesday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+. 

The Mountain Hawks will return home on Saturday at 2 p.m. to host Boston University in Lehigh's National Girls and Women in Sports Day game.
