BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Patriot League basketball returns to Stabler Arena on Saturday evening for a clash between the Lehigh Mountain Hawks and the visiting American Eagles. Lehigh's coaching staff will be participating in the American Cancer Society's 'Coaches vs. Cancer' initiative that aims to increase cancer awareness and healthy living behaviors.
Lehigh (4-12, 1-4 PL) holds the advantage in the all-time series against American (10-8, 4-1 PL) with a record of 33-28. The Mountain Hawks have found great success against the Eagles in recent years, going 8-2 against them in their past ten matchups. However, the two teams have already faced one another this season, which resulted in a 75-66 win for American in D.C.
With a win, Lehigh would split the season series against American and earn their first home Patriot League victory this season. Lehigh's league record would improve to 2-4 ahead of Monday's tilt on the road against Colgate on CBS Sports Network.
Lehigh squared off against Navy in Annapolis in their last matchup, resulting in a narrow 71-69 defeat at the hands of the Midshipmen. The loss marked Lehigh's fourth during Patriot League play, each of which being decided by single-digit points. Senior Dominic Parolin posted a career-high 20 points in the loss, which included an impressive 10-12 mark from the free throw line. He has scored in double-figures in two straight games since returning from injury. Junior Tyler Whitney-Sidney and senior Jalin Sinclair have picked up much of the scoring responsibility in the absence of Keith Higgins Jr., as Whitney-Sidney averages 13.7 points per game while Sinclair has posted 10+ points in each of the past five games.
American sits in second place in the Patriot League standings after an impressive 4-1 start to league play. The Eagles have earned conference wins over Lehigh, Bucknell, Army West Point and Loyola Maryland while dropping a narrow decision to Boston U. on the road. Preseason All-League selection Matt Rogers has led the way for AU with averages of 14.5 points and 6.1 rebounds while winning one Patriot League Player of the Week award thus far on the season. Junior Elijah Stephens follows closely behind at a mark of 12.2 points per game while ranking 36th nationally in assists per game with 5.3.
