PHILADELPHIA - It was a back and forth defensive game between Lehigh men's soccer and La Salle, with both teams holding each other scoreless for majority of the game until La Salle's Omri Ezra scored on a penalty kick in the 85th minute after the Mountain Hawks fouled the Explorers in the box. La Salle's penalty kick would be the difference as Lehigh lost 1-0, Tuesday evening.Â
"It's disappointing to give away a game like that," said head coach Dean Koski. "I thought we played well and created chances, and I couldn't tell from the bench whether that was the right call or not, but we still had an opportunity to get a ball out of the air, and we didn't, and it ended up costing us."
The Mountain Hawks are now 0-2-2, while the Explorers are 3-0-1.Â
Lehigh and La Salle both tallied five shots on Tuesday.
Senior goalkeeper Blake Koski didn't have to make any saves as La Salle only had one shot on goal. La Salle's goalkeeper, Filip Sabatti, had one save in the 12th minute. Yusef Gueye was the only Mountain Hawk credited with a shot on goal on Tuesday.Â
After the Explorers scored in the 85th minute, Lehigh hustled down the field to try and find the equalizer. While the ball was in the box with Lehigh coming down on it, the Mountain Hawks were not able to get a foot on the ball.Â
It was a chippy game on Tuesday, with 27 total fouls called. Eight yellow cards were given out, while seven of those cards given to Lehigh.Â
"We competed, we did all the things we had worked on in the week that we wanted to do," Koski said. "I like the way we kept the ball in transition, and I like the way we created opportunities in the attack. I saw better things in this game than I've seen in previous games. You walk away with the result, and that's soccer. "Â
Lehigh will head north to Burlington, Vt. to take on Vermont on Saturday in a 7 p.m. battle with the Catamounts.Â
