LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Sophomore Zoe Day's two-goal performance lifted the Mountain Hawks over Lock Haven 2-1 on Friday night.
"We taught a lot of new tactics at practice this week and we saw them translated into our game tonight," said head coach Kelsi Lykens. "I'm also proud that our team remained composed against a very physical team and stayed mentally tough and resilient. We were united amongst the chaos and it made the difference tonight."
With 2:18 remaining in the first half, Lehigh got on the board first as Day converted on a penalty stroke opportunity to give the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 lead at the half.
Lock Haven evened the score 1-1 at 12:42 in the fourth quarter. Joelle Bartlett put the goal away in a scramble in front of the net.
With 6:18 remaining in the contest, senior Lotte Smorenburg inserted the ball to Day on a corner, and the sophomore scored her second goal of the game. The Mountain Hawks held on to secure their second victory of the season with the 2-1 final.
Junior Jenny Canoni played all 60 minutes in the cage, recording one save. Lock Haven's Kelsey Felix made five saves.
The Mountain Hawks (2-1) head to Hofstra on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start. The game will be streamed on FloSports.
