Mountain Hawks Raced on the Susquehanna River Against Bucknell

SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's rowing team competed in a dual race against host Bucknell on the Susquehanna River on Sunday, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 22.
"The team showed up with the necessary intensity for a challenging league matchup," stated the Steven J. '69 & Karen A. Lee Head Rowing Coach, Peter Costas. "We'll learn and grow from this race, but glad our lineups took early risks. Thanks to the Bucknell staff for moving racing around the Saturday weather."Â
Sunday morning began with the Varsity 4+, followed by the Second Varsity 8+, the First Varsity 8+ and the Second Varsity 4+.

The Mountain Hawks finished second in the first varsity 4+ in a time of 7:21.55 as the Bison squad finished in 6:48.90.
First Varsity 4+

Lehigh's second varsity 8+ finished second of three teams, completing the course in 6:26.28, about eight seconds behind the Bucknell boat that claimed first with a mark of 6:18.65. The Bison's third varsity boat also raced in this heat and ended third in a time of 6:33.76.
"The 2v showed solid grit in the back half of the race," added Costas. "They've taken on a very fearless attitude in practice and in the past two races. Fatima continues to give them an intensity and edge that they're responding well to."

The Brown and White's first varsity 8+ also finished behind the Bucknell squad, crossing the finish line in 6:08.86 while the Bison completed the race in 5:59.83.

"In the Varsity 8, we spun our wheels a bit and then found a a solid rhythm in the back half of the race. Excited to see Mina continue to take big steps forward and further get settled into 8 seat," said Costas.

"The fours put together sharp races despite some challenging late lineup changes. Proud of both lineups for stepping up and putting a complete effort out when their number was called," commented Costas.
Following Sunday's meet, Lehigh will compete against Sacred Heart, Fordham, Monmouth, Bryant and Fairfield on April 29 in the final tune-up before the May 12 Patriot League Championship.
