BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After winning the last five games of an eight-game road swing, the Lehigh baseball team (18-20, 5-10 Patriot League) returns to J. David Walker Field to host Bucknell in a three-game Patriot League series. The Mountain Hawks and Bison will play a doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday with action both days beginning at noon.
Â
Lehigh's last four wins have come against Patriot League opponents, with the Mountain Hawks sweeping a three-game series at Holy Cross last weekend and then defeating rival Lafayette 9-5 Wednesday at Kamine Stadium in Easton.
Â
Fifth-year Casey Rother continued his record-setting week by going 3-for-5 against the Leopards with a double, four RBIs and his 14th home run of the season, which established a new single season program record. The single-season home run record comes four days after Rother broke the school records for career home runs and RBIs.
Â
Another one of Lehigh's fifth years, Gerard Sweeney, opened the scoring at Lafayette with a two-run double after hitting the tie-breaking, go-ahead home run in Lehigh's 8-4 win at Holy Cross last Sunday.
Â
Lehigh also features the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week in first-year second baseman Dom Patrizi.
Â
On the mound, fifth-year Luke Retting, sophomore Alex Bouchard and junior Teddy Tolliver started the three games at Holy Cross. Bouchard also pitched 3.1 innings of relief to earn a save Wednesday against Lafayette. Rettig, the likely game one starter on Saturday, enters the weekend needing 12 strikeouts to break Lehigh's career record of 262, held by Mitch Smith '79.
Â
Bucknell enters the weekend series at 16-20 overall and 9-10 in league play. The Bison rebounded from a three-game sweep at the hands of Army West Point to defeat Navy 5-1 Wednesday in Lewisburg.
Â
Anthony Sherwin leads Bucknell with a .337 batting average while Sean Keys has provided the power with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs.
Â
Will Greer leads the Bucknell starting staff with a 5.03 ERA while Tyler O'Neill has struck out 38 in 49.1 innings.
Â
Bucknell claimed the first two meetings, winning 6-4 and 16-6 on March 26.
Â
Following the weekend series, Lehigh will visit Towson Tuesday at 3 p.m. and then will host Navy for three games April 29-30.
