Lehigh Downs Colgate 5-2 To Move To 2-0 In League Play

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Patriot League play with a 5-2 victory over Colgate Sunday evening at Drumlins Country Club. The Mountain Hawks swept the doubles point and won the first four singles matches to finish as Lehigh wins for the fourth time in its last five matches, improving to 8-6 on the season.

Lehigh's doubles sweep began with a 6-2 win at No. 3 by seniors Michael Bukhalo and Steven Nazaroff over Mason Caldwell and John Fazli. The No. 2 team of sophomores Marc Blekhman and Sean Jaeger won 7-5 over Aidan Lee and Josh Israel to clinch the doubles point and the No. 1 team of senior Jeremy Learner and junior Jordan Paul completed the sweep with a 7-5 win over Benito Vlassis and Jack Selati.

Bukhalo extended Lehigh's lead to 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tejas Gupta at the No. 6 singles flight. Blekhman followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Max Litton at No. 3, and first-year Jackson Morash delivered the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Lee at No. 5.

Senior Matt Kleiman won 6-4, 6-2 over Selati at the top flight to put Lehigh up 5-0. Colgate (3-12, 2-2 PL) picked up a win from Ben Graham over Paul at No. 4 singles and then Vlassis won a 10-point super tiebreak over Learner at No. 2 in the final match to be completed.

The Mountain Hawks will play two matches next weekend as they will visit Navy in Patriot League action Saturday at 1 p.m. before returning home for a non-league clash with Villanova Sunday at 12 p.m.
