TULSA, Okla. – Lehigh senior Josh Humphreys capped an All-America campaign with two more victories Saturday on the final day of the NCAA Championships at BOK Center. With a 7-3 decision over NC State's Ed Scott and then an 8-0 major decision over Jared Franek of North Dakota State, Humphreys claimed third place at 157 to complete a 21-1 season.
Humphreys is now a two-time All-American after earning his first podium finish at the NCAA Tournament. He earned first-team All-America honors in 2020 following the cancellation of that year's tournament. His 2023 medal is the 160th All-America honor earned by Lehigh wrestlers.
Lehigh finished in a tie for 20th place with 28 points.
Both of Humphreys' matches Saturday were rematches. He defeated Scott 12-7 in December at the Collegiate Wrestling Duals in New Orleans. On Saturday, Humphreys scored a takedown late in the first period to go up 2-0 after one. He led 2-1 early in the third when he reversed Scott, and after an escape added another takedown to go up 6-2. Riding time advantage gave Humphreys the 7-3 decision.
Humphreys then faced Franek in a rematch of Friday's quarterfinal. A dominant second period on top would be the difference on Saturday as Humphreys rode out and turned Franek twice, once for four points and once for two, to lead 6-0 after two. A third period escape plus riding time gave Humphreys the the bronze medal with an 8-0 major decision.
