HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's basketball team suffered a Patriot League loss to first place Colgate, 81-53, on the road at Cotterell Court Wednesday night.
The Mountain Hawks (14-10, 9-4 PL) have now dropped two of their last three games after riding an eight-game winning streak through the month of January. Colgate (18-8, 12-1 PL) rebounds with a win after dropping its first game since December to American last Saturday and earns the season sweep over Lehigh.
Colgate kicked off the game with three points from Keegan Records before the Mountain Hawks got on the board with a jumper from senior Evan Taylor. The Raiders pushed ahead by seven, 14-7, but sophomore Keith Higgins Jr. knocked down a three-pointer to cut the deficit to four points. Colgate extended its advantage to 19 points, 33-14, with 6:28 remaining in the half and would hold on to a double-digit lead for the rest of the half as Lehigh would be trailing 43-26 heading into the locker room.
Â
The Raiders opened the second half with a couple of baskets before senior Reed Fenton drained a three-pointer, which was followed by a layup from sophomore Ben Knostman. Lehigh was able to stay within 20 points for the next few minutes before Colgate extended its lead to as many as 31 points, 76-45, with under five minutes to play and did not look back.
Fenton, who made his first start since the last meeting between these two squads on Jan. 2, shot 6-for-12 from the floor to match his season-high of 14 points. He also recorded two charges and brought down three rebounds for the Brown and White.
Â
Taylor and Higgins Jr. also reached double-figures on the night, with Taylor scoring 11 points with five rebounds and a team-high three assists while Higgins Jr. added 10 points with four rebounds and a steal.
Â
Seven other Mountain Hawks contributed a basket Wednesday, including four points from Knostman who added two assists and a steal. Sophomore Burke Chebuhar and first-year Henri Adiassa each scored three points with bucket and one made free throw while senior Jakob Alamudun, juniors Dominic Parolin and JT Tan, and first-year Tommy Conniff each recorded a basket.
Keegan Records led Colgate in scoring with 19 points and was one rebounds short of a double-double. Recorded was one of four Raiders to reach double-digits, with Tucker Richardson finishing with 13 points, Oliver Lynch-Daniels with 12 points and Jeff Woodward with 11 points.
The Brown and White shot 36.1 percent (22-for-61) from the floor and 23.5 percent (4-for-17) from long distance while the Raiders shot 53.8 percent (35-for-65) and 25 percent (4-for-16) from behind the three-point line.
