Lehigh Drops Season Opener to St. John's

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Mountain Hawks were unable to overcome St. John's on Friday night inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center, falling to the Red Storm 7-0 in their first match of the season.
Lehigh battled with St. John's during doubles play but ultimately gave up the doubles point, falling behind 1-0 going into singles.Â
The Red Storm continued to dominate throughout singles play, picking up wins in the first and second spots. At the No. 3 spot, junior Jordan Paul battled St. John's Anton Stendal. Stendal won the first set 6-3 but Paul fought back to pick up a 6-2 win during the second set. Stendal went on to defeat Paul 6-2 in the third set to secure another point for the Red Storm.Â
Sophomore Marc Blekham picked up a win of his own during the first set of singles play at the No. 4 spot. Blekhman defeated Nishant Dabas 6-3 in the first set before falling to Dabas 6-4, 6-1 in the final two sets.Â
Lehigh will close out the weekend with two more matches inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks will host Marist on Saturday at 2 p.m. and will close out the weekend by hosting Mount St. Mary's on Sunday at 2 p.m.Â
