Lehigh Picks Up 4-3 Win Over Marist

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's tennis team picked up its first win under Howard Talmud '77 head coach Craig Schwartz on Saturday afternoon, defeating Marist 4-3 inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.Â
Lehigh and Marist battled during doubles play but the Red Foxes ultimately clinched the doubles point. Senior Jeremy Learner and junior Jordan Paul picked up their first doubles win of the season at the No. 2 spot. The Lehigh duo defeated Tomas Gomez and Alexander 6-1.Â
The Mountain Hawks showed no signs of backing down as they entered singles play, winning four matches to secure their first win of the season. Learner and Paul picked up their second wins of the day during singles play. Learner defeated Marist's Christian Mills 6-4 in two sets at the No. 2 spot while Paul defeated Gomez 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.
Sophomore Marc Blekhman secured Lehigh's third singles win of the day at the No. 3 spot. Blekhman defeated Thompson 6-1, 6-2.Â
The Red Foxes tried to work their way back but senior Steven Nazaroff clinched the win for the Mountain Hawks at the No. 6 spot. Nazaroff defeated Marist's Moritz Daxboeck 7-6 [7-5], 6-1 at the No. 6 spot. Â
Lehigh will close out the weekend with one final match at home against Mount St. Mary's at 2 p.m. on Sunday.Â
