Kramer Scores 1,000th Point in Dominant Win Against Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After a slow start in the first quarter, the Lehigh women's basketball team stormed back and dominated the next three quarters to come away with a 72-38 victory over Navy at Alumni Hall Wednesday night. Junior Mackenzie Kramer also captured her 1,000th point and is just the 23rd player in program history to hit the mark.
"It's a really cool accomplishment, especially to be amongst those high-level players, "Kramer said. "We have another high-level player in Frannie who just got hers, and to be amongst those people is a big honor."
Frannie Hottinger hit the mark against Loyola on Saturday.
"How special is it to have two of them on the same team, and they really complement each other well," said head coach Addie Micir. "I'm excited for Kenz. To come back in this way and make a statement and a splash, and it was really important points. She needed to be the spark off the bench. You know, Navy led after the first quarter, and she really took us off from there."
Kramer finished with 18 points, which was a game-high. She hit the milestone in the second quarter. It was originally called a three, but after review, was changed to a two-point basket, but it still put Kramer at 1,000. Three other Mountain Hawks finished in double-figures. Frannie Hottinger tallied 15 points, and Lily Fandre and Jamie Behar both had 11 points.
Anna Harvey led the way in assists with nine.
"We need that," Micir said. "Jamie stepped up big, and Lily stepped up big, and Anna may have had zero points, but she had nine assists, so we have to find ways to continue to get a lot of people to contribute."
Hottinger also had 15 rebounds and grabbed her 500th rebound. She is just the 10th player in program history to reach 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
Navy had a 12-10 lead after the first frame, but the Mountain Hawks outscored Navy 22-11 in the second quarter to take a 32-23 lead at the half.
"Our goal was to execute, and we had to do us better than they do them," Micir said. "I thought we turned up the tempo and the pace a little bit more, and our big focus was we are getting looks, so we had to make them, and that's what we did."
In the second half, the Mountain Hawks held Navy to just 15 points. Lehigh went on a 12-0 run in the third quarter, which was the largest run of the game for Lehigh.
Lehigh never took its foot off the gas on Wednesday. Jackie Vargas-Bines assisted Katie Hurt for a layup with 36 seconds left which put Lehigh up by 34 points and was the biggest lead of the night.
Lehigh forced 23 turnovers from Navy tonight, while turning it over 15 times.
Lehigh shot 42.9% for the game, while Navy shot just 27.1%. The Mountain Hawks had a 40-39 advantage on the glass,
Lindsay Llewellyn led Navy with 15 points.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday at Stabler against American at 4 p.m., which will be Lehigh's pink out game presented by Lehigh Valley Topper Cancer Institute.
