Rettig Named D1Baseball.com Preseason Pitcher of the Year with Four Top 10 MLB Draft Prospects for 2023

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – National publication D1baseball.com kicked off the week with its Patriot League preview for the 2023 season and the Lehigh baseball team's fifth-year left-handed pitcher Luke Rettig was selected as the Patriot League Preseason Pitcher of the Year. In addition, multiple Mountain Hawks were mentioned as Top Prospects for the 2023 MLB Draft and Lehigh was selected to finish third in the preseason poll.
Rettig, the 2023 Patriot League Preseason Pitcher of the year, is a two-time All-Patriot League selection and garnered first-team accolades in 2022. He led Patriot League starting pitchers with an ERA of 2.40 while tying for the lead in wins with eight in his 13 starts. The southpaw struck out 71 batters in 71.1 innings of work, threw two complete games, and held his opponents to a .233 batting average.
Four Mountain Hawks were tabbed as top prospects for the 2023 MLB Draft including sophomore infielder/right-handed pitcher Rafe Perich (No. 2) junior infielder Tyler Young (No. 6), Rettig (No. 2), and fifth-year outfielder/first baseman Casey Rother (No. 10).
Sophomore catcher Justin Butler (No. 5) and sophomore right-handed pitcher Val Taddei (No. 6) were both selected as Top Prospects for the 2024 Daft.
Lehigh opens the 2023 season with a three-game weekend series on the road in at Bethune-Cookman Feb. 17-19. First pitch on Friday, Feb. 17 is slated for 7 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Fl.
