EASTON, Mass. - Lehigh women's basketball picked up its second straight win after defeating Stonehill 62-50 Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.Â
The Mountain Hawks improved to 2-0, while the Skyhawks dropped to 0-3.Â
'We talked about having to be 10 points better on the road," said head coach Addie Micir. "That's with execution, rebounding and playing tough. We had to scrap and claw to do that. One thing I said to the girls inside was if you look at the box score, we had three different players in double digits than we did last game. If they're going to take away some of our weapons, we have more that need to step up."
After Remi Sisselman scored the first bucket with 8:11 left in the first quarter, the Mountain Hawks held the lead for the remainder of the game.
Lehigh had three players in double digits. Lily Fandre recorded the first double-double of her career after scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Meghan O'Brien scored 12 points, and Jamie Behar, who went 4-for-4 from the field, finished with 10 points.Â
Whitney Lind was just one point shy in finishing with double digits. Lind tallied nine points for the second straight game.Â
Jada Thornton led the way with 10 points for Stonehill.Â
Lehigh held a 13-9 lead after the first frame. The Mountain Hawks continued their pace and outscored the Skyhawks 15-11 in the second quarter.Â
Lehigh went into halftime with a 28-20 lead.Â
The Mountain Hawks started the third quarter off strong. Lehigh went on a 7-0 run, which put the Mountain Hawks up by 18 points.Â
Behar made a layup with 3:50 remaining in the third frame to put Lehigh up 47-27. Lehigh's 20 points lead would be the largest of the game.Â
After the Mountain Hawks got their biggest lead of the game, the Skyhawks would go on to outscore Lehigh 27-15.Â
Stonehill cut Lehigh's lead to six with 4:06 remaining, but Fandre responded with a huge three-pointer to put Lehigh back up by nine.Â
"She had two big threes for us," Micir said. "The first one was a timely one in a corner - she knew she had to make it, and she knocked it down. The one in the fourth quarter looked balance and hungry, and looked like a sophomore center taking it - her play all day really helped us. She's a force on the defensive end. "
The Skyhawks continued to put pressure on the Mountain Hawks, but Lehigh was relentless down the stretch.Â
Thirty-two of Lehigh's 62 points were scored in the paint. The Skyhawks scored 32 of their 50 points in the paint.Â
Lehigh held a 51-38 advantage on the glass. The Mountain Hawks were also 24-of-65 from the field. Stonehill shot 21-of-68 from the field.Â
Lehigh will hit the road again with a matchup at Delaware on Tuesday at 7 p.m.Â
