Women's Cross Country Travels North For Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's cross country has competed in five different races this season, ranging from dual meets to some of the biggest races in the country. The Mountain Hawks will have a chance to reap their rewards after a successful fall campaign at the 2023 Patriot League Championships, which are being hosted by Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday.
Lehigh last competed at the ECAC Championships in New York City on October 13. The Mountain Hawks ran very well, placing 10th out of 36 schools and finished five runners in the top 100. Lucy Afansewicz led the way for Lehigh, finishing in 43rd with a time of 22:00.2. Rounding out those in the top 100 for the Mountain Hawks were Christina Yakaboski (46th, 22:02.0), Lindsay MacLellan (67thh, 22:17.1), Savanah Beavers (74th, 22:25.5) and Maddison Hayes (82nd, 22:32.4).
The Patriot League Championships will be the second race that Lehigh has run at Colgate's course. The women split their team in half on the season's opening weekend, sending half to Lehigh's own Lehigh Invitational and the other half to the Harry Lang Invitational in Hamilton. The Mountain Hawks ran well, placing third out of nine competing teams. Three Lehigh runners placed within the top ten, including a fourth-place finish from Afanasewicz.
The Mountain Hawks enter Saturday's events as the 13th ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic Region, making them the third-highest ranked team in the Patriot League. Following the weekend's races, those who qualify will be back in action for Lehigh on November 10 for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, which is set to be hosted in Bethlehem on Goodman Campus.
