BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's cross country ran at the ECAC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City this morning. The team had a solid showing, placing tenth out of 36 teams in the women's 6k.

"We were hoping for at least a top ten finish, which we accomplished, but fell a bit short of a top five finish which I felt was realistic," said head coach Debbie Utesch. "We did a nice job of grouping up with our best 1-7 split of the season thanks to great efforts by seniors Grace Kolbe and Abigail Tenreiro."

Lehigh's top finisher at the event was sophomore Lucy Afanasewicz, who came in 43rd place with a time of 22:00.2. It is her second team-high finish of the season, the first of which came at the Harry Lang Invitational where she finished fourth overall.

Senior Christina Yakaboski finished not far behind her teammate, clocking in at 22:02.0 to finish in 46th place. Senior Lindsay MacLellan rounded out the top three for Lehigh, finishing in 67th place with a time of 22:17.1.

Other finishers in the ECAC Championship for Lehigh include Savanah Beavers (74th, 22:25.5), Maddison Hayes (82nd, 22:32.4), Grace Kolbe (132nd, 22:59.8), Abigail Tenreiro (148th, 23:10.7), Elisa Brear (194th, 23:47.6), Grace Hughes (206th, 23:58.4) and Athiel Mading (228th, 24:22.7).

The team scored a total of 298 points, which was good for tenth place in a pool of 36 schools.

The Mountain Hawks also had five runners compete in the Open 6k race, with first-year Aurora Wilson placing tenth with a time of 23:21.3 to lead Lehigh. Also finishing in the top three for Lehigh was Andrine Larsen (25th, 23:56.8) and Siri Hellenbrand (29thh, 24:01.6).

Lehigh will take a week off from competition before heading to Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. for the Patriot League Championships on October 28.

"The women are looking forward to catching their breath this weekend after some heavier exam weeks and then we have a bit of good training work to put in to finish our preparation for Colgate's course," said Utesch. "We are excited to freshen up our legs once we begin the taper into the championships.  I know I have some women who are focused and driven and looking forward to making an impact in two weeks at the Patriot League Championships.
